A new dawn is on the verge of breaking through the monotony that has been 2020. There will be a decisive moment during Sagittarius season that will inform how we move forward as a community, society, family, comrades, and friends. The conjunction of Saturn-Jupiter initiates a new cycle, preceded by a magnificent solar eclipse that heralds in the next chapter of our co-existence.

What seeds will you bring with you from this time of deep contemplation? What will you sow for 2021?  We will need the courage and heart of Sagittarius to trust in our power, to voice our intentions for that change.

ARIES (March 21 – April 19)

1 Aries

The last year has felt like a tight vise around the chest, your movement and expression limited by the constriction needed to survive. But this month that constriction loosens a bit, as the horizon finally shows the first rays of light that promise a new day rising, and you can finally take a deep, long breath. Mercury enters Sagittarius on December 1st, bringing a new vantage point from which to witness the difficulties of this year. There is a gift for you to uncover now: hope. As the New Moon in Sagittarius approaches on December 14th, renew your commitment to accepting challenges as opportunities to find creative solutions. This is your month to open up the skylight and remember what it’s like to look forward to a new day. Think about collaborating with others on a new project, and get it started around December 21st when Jupiter is conjunct Saturn—you can record what this felt like before you leave these memories far behind.

Audio Challenge: What is a personal audio challenge you’re currently facing? Maybe it’s a new pedal, technique, or instrument. Spend a day with the challenge without any expectations; put aside your fears, insecurities, and lack of knowledge. Show up, embrace the unknown, and consider collaborating with the Aries audiobyte.

TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)

2 Taurus

All the incremental steps you’ve been taking towards manifesting the work you wish to pursue are coming to fruition in this moment. Like a tea kettle, each degree that you take toward your goals brings the pot closer to boiling. But in order to move forward, there are some things you’ll need to let go of. Mercury moves into Sagittarius on December 1st and hints towards that which is bringing you down, and the New Moon on December 14th asks you to release that confining attachment as you begin moving forward. It’s time to recognize that you cannot change everything about a certain situation in order to fulfill your needs—you either accept what you’ve got in front of you or decide to move on without it. By the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction on December 21st, when a long-awaited opportunity finally manifests, you’ll know what you can carry with you and what will have to be left behind. New chapters require sacrifice. It’s up to you to decide whether it’ll be worth it in the end.

Audio Challenge: Meditate on the Taurus audiobyte and think about what part of your musical practice no longer nourishes you. Make a list of what you may need to let go off to progress in the new year.

GEMINI May 21 – June 20

These relationship dynamics need to change. The world needs more compassion and empathy, and your part to play in this moment involves revisiting the connections you’ve already made and energizing them with new light. The season is already changing in this realm, and it beckons you to once again invite compassionate connection. When Mercury enters Sagittarius on December 1st it’s time to integrate the feedback you’ve gotten from others about how you show up in collaborations. You’ve got a lot to learn in this arena: none of us can really see what we look like from others’ perspectives. And while you should hold your experience true, it’s also true that learning how to build with others is a lifelong endeavor, and one we desperately need to work on right now. The New Moon on December 14th is a sacred time to initiate a collaborative project in order to address some energetic patterns. Allow a new practice to invigorate your capacity for co-creation.

Audio Challenge: Listen to the voices merging in the Gemini audiobyte, and consider beginning a virtual musical collaboration with someone whose feedback you trust. Maybe that looks like demos you send to each other, recording new parts over the demos, or just meeting up on Zoom to play each other songs and discuss.

CANCER (June 21 – July 22)

When taking on more responsibilities at work or in your creative practice, it’s important to also pay attention to how you structure your time around that increase as well as the energy spent on production. You may have a daily routine or practice that worked previously, but that may have to shift as you take on more work. Remember that you are only as productive as you are feeling grounded and centered in your body. If you push yourself past your limit, then the New Moon in Sagittarius on December 14th will be the perfect time to reset some boundaries and restart some practices that keep you nourished and vibrant. You have the capacity to elevate your output to the next level now, as Mars has gone direct in your house of vocation and enterprise, and you’ll want to make the most of it. By the end of Sagittarius season, around December 21st, you should be met with a fantastic opportunity to shine, brought to you by someone in your circle. Make sure you’re ready to take it on.

Audio Challenge: Evaluate how your current routine is working for you. Set a goal for how much time you’d like to spend with music during the week, and schedule dates and times. Stick to it.

 LEO (July 23 – August 22)

It’s time to remember why being here at this time is a blessing and not a sentence to mourn. There are many opportunities available to us that have never been accessible before, not the least of which is the access to any information you wish at the touch of a button. It’s time to utilize this gift to push your practice into the next level. On December 14th, both Venus and Mercury enter your house of creative expression, culminating with the New Moon. This is the time to remember why creative expression is not only important, but a necessary skill for survival during turbulent times. This month, push yourself to invest into further developing a skill that will elevate your creative expression—allow pre existing  curiosities to unfurl. The Saturn-Jupiter conjunction brings with it the promise of a new collaborative partner, someone who will help reignite your commitment to your craft. Accept the support, but remember that it is you who must tend to the fire that fuels your passion.

Audio Challenge: What musical curiosity have you been hiding from? Devote time this month to lean into it—read up about confusing new gear on the internet, watch YouTube tutorials, reach out to someone who is well versed—and consider practicing with the Leo audiobyte.

VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)

6 virgo

There is an opportunity here to do some root work: clear out some of the misconceptions you’ve been carrying about who you are in the world, and what you mean to those who care about you. Even though the world is on the verge of blooming in a new light, there’s still time to address some of the pains that have been buried so deep that they feel like a part of you—but they don’t have to be. Mercury, your ruler, enters the house of lineage and home this month, opening up the lines of communication between who you have been and who you are now. Revisit some of the connections you made when you were too young to understand how others operate. At the New Moon on December 14th, commit to bringing understanding, compassion, and empathy to those who have been locked into their roles in your world for too long. Some of them deserve your ire, but others might be ready to move with you into a new space. This root work will free up energy you didn’t know was stored within those calcified wounds, inspiring new work by December 21st, when Saturn meets Jupiter. Tell your side of the story.

Audio Challenge: Using the Virgo audiobyte as the base, write a song that tells the story of who you are today, and also puts to rest the misconceived version of yourself you’ve been holding on to.

LIBRA (September 23 – October 22)

Daily life is going to start picking up speed now, as the promise of what is to come energizes the field and sets many new projects in motion. But your daily headspace may start to feel inundated with all the small tasks that must be addressed in order to lift your next projects from idea to praxis. Re-organize and prioritize now, at the beginning of the month, so that these details don’t snowball later. The New Moon on December 14th gives you a beautiful opportunity to notice what’s irritating your ability to focus and make some changes to invite clarity and purpose. You may want to address some expectations put on you by a collaborative partner or romantic connection, especially if you’ve been feeling stretched from the added workload. You can’t make everyone happy, but you do need to prioritize your vision now. After the 17th, you’ll have the gift of grace to address issues adequately and take the space you need to manifest. If you’ve been able to clear your workload, the end of the month will inspire a promising new work—Saturn and Jupiter meet in your house of creativity and can spark visions of what you will manifest.

Audio Challenge: Dedicate a brand new notebook to your musical endeavors. Listen to the Libra audiobyte on repeat, open to the first page, and write a to-do list of the small tasks you must get done in order to move your project forward. Be specific, set deadlines, and follow through.

SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)

8 scrorp

You are not made of metal parts moving in a synchronous cacophony of productivity and commerce. You were not made to participate in this world solely as an agent of capital exchange. You cannot measure your worth by how much someone is willing to pay you for the service. You must center human value, human words, human actions, and human intuition first. Sagittarius season is your time to renegotiate the value system you have adopted in this world. The New Moon on December 14th calls in your values—not in terms defined by other peoples’ expectations or systems, but by what it is you know you need in order to bring forth the new day that is coming. Great purpose can be clarified now, if you invite those who guide your path to how you will honor them in the coming year. You were made for the time that is approaching, when we come together to change the tides. Ask for guidance on how best to participate in the movement: Saturn-Jupiter’s meeting on December 21st will bring with it a clear message on what can be done on your part.

Audio Challenge: Think about who and what you’ve been writing music for lately. Is it money? Is it someone whose opinion you hold way too high? Is it an outdated version of yourself? This month, listen to the Scorpio audiobyte and write out your specific values within your music—with no one but yourself in mind—and begin to create from that space.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21)

In the flickering flames of the fire that you see in quick flashes burning through the vestiges of an era coming to an end, your spirit is reborn. It’s important to stay cautious; know that even as the tide turns, there are still those who will continue to scream old slogans until they turn blue, hoping to incite a war that will not come, hoping to bring back an era long past. But you can also begin to dream now. And in that space made for the hope you’ve been holding back for so long, you can envision what joys you want to revisit, what friends you want to hold, who you will become now that you have trudged through the darkness of night and made it to dawn. The New Moon on December 14th is yours to remake yourself in your own image. Now that so much has been stripped away, what small assemblages of hope kept your compass pointing true? Commit to breathing these flags back to full staff, waving them in the wind in full force, trusting in your capacity to get through.

Audio Challenge: Light a small candle in the space where you write music. Using the Sagittarius audiobyte, write a song that embodies the person you’d like to carry over into 2021. Work on it until the candle burns down completely.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19)

Some mountain peaks you climb by barely moving at all. You’ve done so much climbing this year, trudging up the winding paths even as it hailed and snowed and blew so many others down. Now that you’ve reached this midway point, surrounded by nothing but the sound of the wind whipping at the corners of your tent, and the silence of peaks piercing through the winter air, it’s time to sit with mountains. Let your spirit unfurl. Let your heart become the heart of the mountain. Let your legs become the roots of granite that reach far down into the Earth. The New Moon on December 14th will bring with it the expansion of spirit you’ve been seeking, even as you’ve been trudging along thinking you were in pursuit of height. This insight will bring with it the information needed to make changes on this route, in order to enjoy the process of ascension. Trust the space you’ve made for yourself on this journey. You’re about to find a field of wildflowers waving in the morning breeze where you thought only snow lived. Wait for it.

Audio Challenge: Consider the Capricorn audiobyte as the ascension up the mountain, the verse that climbs. Write the next part of the song, the arrival to the highest peak—the chorus.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18)

It’s ok to realize you’re not content with the small space you’ve been inhabiting for the past year, toiling away in the same small patterns, watching as the world becomes smaller and smaller until it’s nothing more than four walls, a room, and a Zoom. But what you do with that discontent can make the difference between inviting the expansive possibilities that await or cutting off your nose in order to spite your face. You do still need people. And people do still need you. And in the light of the New Moon on December 14th you should endeavor to remember what it was like to play with your band at the show, what it was like to plan the route of your next tour across the vast expanse of space, what it was like to trace your next steps and relish the reconnections you’d make along the way. It’s not too far off now, the capacity for change. But you cannot give up on it before that door opens, on December 21st, when Jupiter and Saturn meet and invite you to take on more responsibilities that align your practice with your work. You want to be ready to meet that opportunity with the surety of a vision fully fleshed, not the pessimism of someone who has given up. Remember.

Audio Challenge: Revisit memories of your music life pre-pandemic by looking through tour photos and memorabilia, listening to bands you didn’t get to see live this year, and reaching out to those you once spent so much musical time with. Remember what you once loved, and still do—write about it (in words or song) to the sound of the Aquarius soundbyte.

PISCES (February 19 – March 20)

12 pisces

What you need right now is not the indulgence in a fantasy that will manifest simply by dreaming it, but the determination to realize a facet of your own development is within your grasp. You have the support of Jupiter and Saturn to buckle down and do the work that is necessary in order to build the infrastructure you need. Make a commitment at the New Moon on December 14th to you and only you. Not an ambition for recognition, money, abundance, or acclaim, but to the clarity, strength, and determination you are building within yourself in order to focus your energy on your enterprise. Don’t spend your energy on frivolous pursuits to satisfy small pleasures. Anything you want to achieve now you are capable of manifesting, but only if you realize that it will cost you time, energy, and fantasy. You’ll have to let go of the part of you that wishes things could be exactly as you envision them so that you can grow from where you are right now. You‘re fully capable of moving forward, just as you are, in this moment. Take it.

Audio Challenge: Using the Pisces audiobyte as the base, write a song that manifests what you’d like to achieve with your music. Use lyrics, instrumentation, and/or production to create an audible testament to your goals.
