Editor’s Letter: Welcome to the New Site!
Dear Shredders,
I can’t believe this day is finally here. It feels like we’ve been waiting for this website since October 2012. Back then we celebrated the development of becoming a magazine out of a zine. Today, just a few weeks before turning three, we celebrate becoming a multi-media platform out of a print publication. Thanks to countless hours spent by our amazingly talented designer, Lauren Baker, and our extremely patient developer, Jacob Cooper of 600 Lines, from now on sheshreds-staging.jzck3hem-liquidwebsites.com will be a place where you will be able to read, watch and learn about music, guitars and feminism—the first online platform of it’s kind. Why is this combination so important and so relevant? Because up until now the guitar industry and “shredding” have been met with a bunch of men who, consciously or subconsciously, leave women and other undervalued voices out of the conversation. Consequently, this has disabled growth in many fields of the industry—for starters, a place for musicians to engage with female role models and learn in ways other than what saturates the male dominated forums and videos out there.
In the past few years we’ve seen a number of amazing publications, media outlets and brands give attention to issues like this. As a result we are seeing national news proclaiming that change is ahead and declaring a revolution. In the next few months we’ll be implementing a space where you can hear and read from innovative guitarists, watch and learn about gear and tricks of the trade, and stay up to date on the latest developments regarding women in the music industry. This is just the beginning but we hope that you enjoy interacting with this new platform and become inspired to shred it up every dang day.
